I have been mulling this one over for a while, but Lawrence Longs planned drive on the 26th convinced me. What is your favorite canyon run? And Why! My favorite is Rist Canyon. It runs from Bellvue to Buckhorn Road. Lost of low turns, couple sweepers and straigts, and some brutal tight hairpins near the top. Makes the top of my list for lack of traffic. I used to hit this road at 2am, back when the 67 was a small block with worn out 6cyl suspension and 4 lug wheels. I recently re-discovered it coming back from Steamboat Springs, and got stuck at an accident in Poudre Park. I backtracked up to Buckhorn, and came down through Rist. It was the first run for my newly aquired SHO, even with the "heavy" traffic, was a great drive. I prefer canyon runs going uphill, anyone else? maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Rist+Canyon+Road,+Bellvue,+CO&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=51.974572,134.912109&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Rist+Canyon+Rd,+Bellvue,+Larimer,+Colorado+80512&ll=40.637404,-105.271511&spn=0.09822,0.2635&z=13

Turn north on Hwy 225 out of Elko Nevada. You come to a canyon. There are only two signs as you enter. A speed limit sign (about 50 as I recall), and an orange squigly sign that says "25" below it. The "25" is true for some of the turns. In Colorado there would be speed limit changes and straightaways at pathetic a pace. But (unless they changed it) you get to guess the corners and accelerate on the straights. It's the most fun I've had on a motorcycle. I wish I could take my Cobra someday. Stop me and ask me about meeting the County Sheriff.

Jason, I've never traveled on the Rist Canyon Road but it sure looks fun.
Mike, your canyon in Nevada could be an adventure but it sounds like a long road trip to get there.
I've done the Golden Gate Canyon, west of Golden, CO several times. It starts just north of Golden and ends up at Golden Gate State Park, along Hwy 119. All of these sound like nice "Top Down" drives.

The Stove Prairie Road run on Sunday was pretty nice. I'd like to do the Rist Canyon run soon.

My "quickie" run is up the Big Thompson canyon from the Dam Store up to Drake and back on 34. Especially after dark when you can see oncoming headlights on the canyon walls.
I still like Stove Prarie on a sunny morning with lunch at Mishawaka and then a return the same way. Next time I'll include Rist Canyon.

Stove Prairie is a fun drive. For a longer drive I'll head down to Longmont on LCR 23, west on Hwy 66 towards Lyons, south on 36 towards Boulder, then take Left Hand Canyon road up to Ward. From there I go north on Hwy 72 (Peak to Peak hwy) to Hwy 7. At that point I can take a right and head back to Lyons & home, or take a left & head to Estes Park. At Estes Park I can either take Hwy 36 back to Lyons & home, or Hwy 34 towards Loveland & home via the road to Carter Lake.

There is a good chance that "some" of these might be part of the First CanyonBall Run in May. Ken
