Howdy everyone. I'm a new guy in the Berthoud area and just acquired a '66 Convertible. It has a 302 (not original) and a 4-speed. Mechanically sound, but needs a new interior and a bit of body work. I was told it is a Colorado car and it doesn't seem to be too rusty. The usual spots over the rear wheel arches & dog legs & floors. The doors & fenders are solid and so is the trunk. My wife and I plan to drive it as is this summer and then I'll tackle the body work & paint in the fall/winter. This is my 2nd Mustang, I had a '66 coupe with inline 6/3-speed back in high school. Sold it in college and told myself I'd have another someday. It took awhile, but I finally found a convertible in my price range that I will be able to do most of the work on to turn into a decent weekend cruiser. This will be my first real Mustang project. I've been into Datsun 240Z's for the past several years and have refreshed a couple, currently working on a 3rd. It is a departure from stock, though, and has a Chevy LT1/T-56. Other projects include a '64 Impala 2dr coupe and a '65 Buick Special convertible. So, plenty to keep me busy for awhile! Looking forward to meeting other local Mustang folks and getting advice as I dive into this project. I'll probably lurk for a bit, but I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions once I get into it. Cheers, Kenny Attachments:

Hi Kenny Sweet ride but then I am partial to 66 Stangs. If you have any questions about anything on that car you should contact Rich at Midwest Auto Body in Longmont. He did the work on my fastback and is an encylopedia of knowledge on the vintage stuff

Kenny, Congratulations on the nice '66 find. My first Mustang was a red '66 coupe also.
There are a few people here that can share '66 restoration "experiences" with you.

I would indeed like to hear about the restoration experiences others have gone through. I think I will be able to do the body work myself, since the rust doesn't appear to be too bad. But, I won't know until I remove the old paint and dig into it. I'm hoping a new set of rear 1/4 patches will do. The view from inside the trunk looks good, solid & rust free with no signs of previous repair. There are a few dents & dings that should smooth out with a little hammer & dolly work.
I've painted a few other cars with good results, a convertible should be a bit easier without a roof to worry about! The only dilemma is what color to go with. My wife suggested candy apple red, but that might be beyond my skills. Won't know unless I try, I guess. I need to decode the VIN and trim tag to determine what the car was originally like.
