A couple months of research, parts gathering, and work installing but my car now has a 5 speed. Many thanks to Kevin D. and other friends who helped me get r dun. Drove the car to Lyons and back tonite. Wow, what a difference. Gonna take some practice to not keep breaking rear tires loose when I take off ;D

Congratulations on all your hard work (and those that helped you out). Should be a nice improvement over the old slush-box!

I put a '88 T5 behind the 289 in my '66. I used the original bell housing with the adapter plate (from California Pony Cars, I think). The car originally had a 4-speed. The original driveshaft fit without having to be shortened, although I did replace the original tranny yoke with a T5 yoke, which is shorter. I kept the stock mechanical clutch linkage and it works just fine. The shifter is an aftermarket design that looks like the the original 4-speed lever, but is made to bolt to the T5.
